Location
The farm is in the Limousin Region close to the border between the Departments of Correze and
its neighbour Haute Vienne. 2 miles away is the new A20 motorway making the farm very easy to find. We are situated
almost exactly halfway between the cities of Limoges and Brive.
|
We are 4 hours drive from Paris and a big bonus is that half the distance from Paris is
on an un-tolled Motorway (A20).
Although the motorway is close there is a forest and a valley between it and the farm.
The lack of lighting on the motorway means that even at night it does not intrude at all on the peace and quiet of the
location. It just means that getting to the farm and getting about afterwards are a doddle.
Access by air is very good and very cheap with Ryanair flying daily to Limoges Airport
(45 mins away) from Stanstead and Liverpool and from March 2006 from East Midlands airport as well. |

 Our Land in early
Autumn |
Correze is renowned for its tranquillity and "off the beaten track" feel. It is the only
department in France that has a lower population now than since before World War II. This becomes very apparent even in
the height of summer, where you will still find empty roads and very picturesque medieval towns that are not teeming
with tourists. Our nearest big town is Uzerche. It is a very
picturesque and remarkable medieval town, once besieged by the Moors. Anywhere else it would be a magnet for tourists,
but although some evidence of tourism is slowly beginning to spring up it is remarkably unspoilt. You only have to
travel 40-50 miles to the south and visit the Dordogne to appreciate how stark the difference is and how few people as
yet know about Correze.
 The Farm |
 |
Being the next door department to the Dordogne we enjoy broadly the same climate,
however as we are at an altitude of 500m (1500 ft) we do enjoy cooler evenings and probably get a higher rainfall. In
summer we do get rain, but it is mostly in the form of serious electric storms which are frequently spectacular and
normally fairly brief. Thus everything is very lush and green, unlike the Departments to the south which can get very
dry and dusty in the summer. |
Chez Nous
We are located on some high ground overlooking the Chateau Forsac which is owned and run by
life long family friends. They operate a Chambres d'Hotes business and can also arrange shooting days for those
interested in hunting.
|
Our farm consists of 2 houses and a huge stone barn along with a number of outbuildings.
We have 10 acres of land which is mostly laid to pasture. There are various landscaping projects underway; these
include creating paddocks and accommodation suitable for visiting horses and establishing cider orchards.
At present the main house is the only accommodation in use. The cottage is undergoing a
complete and sympathetic refurbishment and will provide a 3 bedrooms (1 en-suite) with a very big farmhouse kitchen and
big sitting room with a large inglenook fireplace. |
